Another rail record

QUEENSLAND Rail (QR) announced it had set another railings record for the Blackwater Corridor.

For the week ended July 29, QR railed 804,491 tonnes of coal through the corridor. This is an annual railing rate of 41.8 million tonnes.

During 2000-01, QR transported 127.7Mt of coal and tonnages are forecast to increase over the next five years. The figure was up 11.5% over the 1999-2000 year total of 114.5Mt.

QR said it remains dedicated to building the worlds best rail service by focusing on customer service and product delivery. QR is developing stronger links with its customers though initiatives such as the corridor user groups. Working together is producing benefits for customers and QR.

In related news, two loaded trains collied on the Goonyella rail corridor, blocking the track till late last week. Cargo railings to both Dalrymple Bay and Hay Point were disrupted for a few days.
