A NEW checklist to help the mining industry meet its responsibilities under the New South Wales’ mine safety legislation has been released by the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

Safety checklist for NSW mines

The audit checklist - aimed at mine operators, occupational health and safety (OH&S) committees, site check inspectors and safety inspectors - gives step-by-step guidelines for satisfying legislative requirements.

The checklist identifies, assesses and prioritises on-site actions to improve the effectiveness of OH&S consultation arrangements.

The system has already been trialled at three NSW mines.

Department mine safety officers will visit mine-sites over the next 18 months to explain and clarify the checklist. The list can be found at www.minerals.nsw.gov.au
