New mines minister for Queensland

QUEENSLAND’s ministerial responsibilities have been shuffled resulting in a new minister being named for the state’s growing mining sector.

Premier Peter Beattie announced that Stephen Robertson, the current minister for natural resources and mines, is to be made the new health minister.

Beattie paid tribute to Robertson, saying he had proven himself to be a capable administrator in dealing with complex and sensitive areas. Robertson’s work on Queensland’s native title agreements has resulted in a renaissance in mining exploration, Beattie said.

The minister for primary industries and fisheries, Henry Palaszczuk, will become the new minister for natural resources and mines.

"Henry has stamped Primary Industries and Fisheries with his own personality for the past seven years, and is handing it over in excellent shape," Beattie said.

"He is a terrific team player, and the qualities which have made him a great minister for primary industries and fisheries will also make him a great minister for natural resources and mines.”
