Trains collide in Louisiana

THREE crew members have been injured after a Union Pacific train crashed into a parked coal train in northwestern Louisiana on Monday morning.

According to Associated Press reports, the incident occurred in Keithville, Caddo Parish, near Shreveport, when the UP train on the main track was diverted to a side track just after 6.30am.

The moving southbound line ran into the parked train, which was loaded with coal.

The conditions of the three crew members, all riding the moving train at the time of the incident, were not known on Monday afternoon, though officials did confirm the injuries were minor.

Also not known is the load aboard the UP train, though officials told the AP they did not believe it was of a hazardous nature.

Clean-up was ongoing on Monday afternoon, as about 10 cars of one of the trains derailed following impact.

An investigation into the cause of the collision has commenced.
