US coal production takes a dip

THE weekly coal production report - which has been updated for the week ended February 01, 2014 and month ended January 2014 by the US Energy Information Administration - shows that production has been declining the US.

For the week ended February 01, US coal production totalled approximately 18.8 million tons.

This production estimate is 2.0% lower than last week's estimate and 0.4% lower than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2013.

Coal production east of the Mississippi River totalled 7.7Mt and coal production west of the Mississippi River totalled 11.1Mt.

US year-to-date coal production totaled 85.9Mt, 2.4% lower than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2013.

For the month ended January 2014 US coal production totaled approximately 84.5Mt.

This production estimate is 0.4% lower than the production estimate in the same month in 2013.

Coal production east of the Mississippi River totalled 34.7Mt while coal production west of the Mississippi River totalled 49.8Mt.
