“Police on jet skis were forced to tow protesters out of the ship’s path,” the Newcastle Herald reported.
“Despite the intervention, no arrests were made.”
The protesters, led by the traditionally dressed Pacific Climate Warriors on home-made wooden canoes and accompanied by more standard variety protesters on kayaks, planned to blockade Newcastle’s port to raise awareness about climate change and rising sea levels.
The Pacific Island-based protest group is funded by 350.org, one of the organisations behind the Stopping the Australian Coal Export Boom strategy document leaked to media a couple of years ago.
