The investigation is being conducted under the provisions of the Forestry Act 1959, and is currently in the initial stages. The spokesperson said that the department is determining whether or not Adani Mining was authorised to remove and use the quarry material.

The spokesperson explained that Adani is assisting the department in the investigation, and that the company’s records showed that 5580 tonnes of low-grade road construction type material was taken from the quarry.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the spokesperson said that there were a range of compliance actions that could be imposed. They include a letter of warning, demand for payment of foregone royalties, issue of penalty infringement notice, and prosecution.
