According to Associated Press, the financial award of up to $1000 is part of the organisation’s Miners Relief Fund, which the area’s Catholic Community Services established after the Sago explosion in January. Those receiving the award may use it for college, vocational training, retraining or even career counselling.

Applicants must be residents of the state and only one scholarship is permitted per family, the report said. For further information about the program or to obtain an application, contact Todd Garland at tgarland@dwc.org.
