Resurrection of 150 year-old mine

ORIGINALLY opened in the 1860’s and last worked 10 years ago, the Stansbury Mine in Wyoming is about to get a new lease on life courtesy of New Stansbury Coal Company.

Angie Tomlinson

Stansbury managing director Randall Peterson told Associated Press his company had just completed the purchase from Rock Springs Royalty Co, a subsidiary of Anadarko Petroleum Corp.

The acquisition includes the mine assets, a coal lease, a surface-use license, mining permits and all other necessary coal-mining permits.

Stansbury said the mine will be re-named Little Patriot Mine and has a projected life span of more than 20 years. The high-Btu coal will be marketed domestically.
