GLADSTONE Magistrates Court judge Penelope Hay made scathing comments on fly-in, fly-out workers in a recent decision against a rigger who attacked police and security guards in a drunken state.

According to the Gladstone Observer, Hay said the late-night gross intoxication, violence and abusive behaviour from FIFO workers was unacceptable.

"It is different in our community when we have people fly-in, fly-out," she reportedly said.

"They think they can fly in and get away with it, but that's not the case."

The rigger who works on an LNG project site on Curtis Island, Augusto Sassi, head-butted a security guard after being evicted from the Central Lane Hotel in the early hours of August 31, with CCTV footage of his behaviour shown.

Sassi was issued with a banning order and fined $1000.
