Under the three-year contract TMS will manage the site and all mining and construction activities.

TMS is a big player in the nation and boasts Xstrata and Gold Fields of South Africa as its clients.

“The board of Continental believes it has appointed one of the most reputable and experienced coal mining contractors in South Africa and their support will be a key factor in the timely development of the company’s core near-term production asset,” Continental managing director Bruce Buthelezi said.

The mine is targeting 1 million tonnes per annum of domestic thermal coal production and 0.35Mtpa of export quality thermal coal

Continental said sales agreements were being finalised with utility Eskom and “a number of international coal trading houses”

Shares in Continental are up 6.2% to 5.1c this morning.
