Flood and fire add to Chinese death toll

ELEVEN miners have been killed in underground coal mines in China's eastern province of Jiangxi and southwest province of Sichuan.

Staff Reporter

According to state media agency Xinhua, a fire killed six miners and one remains missing at the Jiangxi province mine.

Investigators suspect a short-circuit might have ignited underground cables.

In another accident, Xinhua said five bodies were pulled from a flooded mine yesterday.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
