The event is set for July 18-20 at the YMCA Youth Sports Complex in Beckley, West Virginia, and is being sponsored by many of the coal-rich region’s mining operators and suppliers. It is the fifth annual running and the third involving the Friends of Coal industry advocacy group.
While no attendance estimates have been made by organisers, the 2007 event turnout was measured in the tens of thousands.
In addition to automobile and motorcycle displays, the event will also feature a carnival, food vendors, and a concert by country music legend Randy Travis with West Virginia band Taylor Made. A Sponsors' Row will also be erected with equipment and interactive displays on the importance of coal.
All proceeds from the auto fair will benefit the YMCA’s programs. Three famous faces who serve as spokesmen for Friends of Coal – university football coaches Don Nehlen, Bob Pruett and professional fisherman Jeremy Starks – will also be on hand for special presentations.
Hours for the event vary by date and activity, but organisers said a free shuttle service will be available and there will be free parking at the grounds.
