Official News Agency Xinhua reported 338 miners had benefited from the funds, with more to come.

About 600 workers would be treated next year and 6000 to 8000 annually within the next three to five years.

Xinhua said more than 580,000 miners in China had been affected by the disease.

There is no cure for black lung but treatment to alleviate it includes flushing out a patient’s lungs.

Black lung is contracted by the inhalation and accumulation of coal dust in the lungs. The silica (respirable size quartz dust) and carbon in the coal dust cause black lung disease.

In the United States, free chest X-rays are offered to miners to detect the disease.
