Safety round table starts looking underground

THE Earth Moving Equipment Safety Round Table, initially set up to establish design philosophies for the designers of surface operation equipment, has formed an underground coal and soft rock technical group.

A Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre spokesperson told International Longwall News the group will develop design philosophies outlining related risks associated with hydraulics, access and egress platforms, manual tasks and the isolation of energy.

EMESRT will hold a workshop in Brisbane next week to showcase the outcomes of its engagement with original equipment manufacturers.

The workshop will also begin a planning strategy for initial engagement with the mining equipment manufacturers for the underground coal sector.

EMESRT’s mission is to accelerate the development of leading practice designs for earth moving equipment by engaging OEMs, contractors and end users, in a bid to reduce health and safety risks.
