In an announcement issued over the weekend the company said it had not received any complaints or returns but was issuing the recall as a precautionary measure.

Its supplier Paulson Manufacturing, as well as internal and third-party evaluations, found the visors failed to meet the high-velocity, high-mass impact tests required under ANSI Z87.1-2003.

Units included in the recall were produced between February 2004 and January 2010.

The part numbers – found on the visor label along with material type and manufacture date – included are 10005883, 10005885, 10006024, 10086994, 10086998, 10087000, and 10087022.

MSA said that visor part number 10005883 was also being recalled from Canadian customers because of incorrect labeling. The company noted all other compliance tests performed on the visors were met.

The company asked that all customers in possession of the visors remove them from service. It is also offering alternate replacement visors at no cost, and is working to correct all problems.

Those with questions or wishing to request a visor replacement form may contact MSA North America headquarters in Pennsylvania at (800) 672 2222.

The form, along with a distributable announcement of the recall, can also be found on MSHA’s website.
