Kost high at Foundation

KURT Kost has been named senior vice president for western operations and process management, Maryland-based Foundation Coal announced today.

Kost, who will be based at the corporate headquarters, will work under company chief James Roberts effective December 7.

“A philosophy of continuous improvement now permeates all levels of the Foundation Coal organisation, from the mine face to the loadout, largely as a result of Kurt Kost’s tireless efforts,” said Roberts.

Prior to his new role, Kost was vice president of Foundation, where he assisted the company achieve a 33% increase in third-quarter revenue – a feat accomplished through the shipment of a record-breaking 11.5 million tons from its Wyoming operations and an 11% increase company-wide. He had served in the vice president role since 2001.

Named Coal Company of the Year at the seventh annual Platts Global Energy Awards earlier this month, Foundation produces coal from 13 coal mines and related facilities in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Illinois and Wyoming.
