Ampcontrol extends NSW cable service

ELECTRICAL manufacturer Ampcontrol has extended its services to coal mines in the southern and western coalfields of New South Wales with the purchase of two new cable service companies.

Angie Tomlinson

The acquisition of Lithgow Cable Repairs (known as Lithgow Cable Services under the new ownership) and Illawarra Cable Services makes Ampcontrol one of the largest cable repairers in Australia.

In conjunction with existing service operations in the Hunter Valley and Wollongong in NSW, Mackay and Moranbah in Queensland and Perth in Western Australia, the group can now provide cable services to all major mining regions on the east coast of Australia.

The new companies will boost Ampcontrol’s capability to provide complete solutions of electricity and the capability to offer cable repair services and the sale and hire of cables. A 24-hour cable repair and maintenance service is now also available.

The company is also offering cable leasing packages to the construction, industrial and mining markets.

The new acquisitions will add more than 1300sq.m of undercover workshop floor space to the company to help reduce turnaround time for general repairs and refurbishment.

Ampcontrol has experienced considerable growth of late, trebling its size over the past five years to employ more than 430 people across 14 sites.
