MSHA extends comment period

INDUSTRY will have longer to have its say on a Mine Safety and Health Administration proposed rule amending civil penalties after the agency extended the comment period out to November 9.

Angie Tomlinson

The proposed rule, published September 8, looks at amending the criteria and procedures for proposed assessment of civil penalties.

The rule would increase penalty amounts, implement new requirements of the MINER Act, and revise agency procedures for proposing civil penalties.

MSHA held six public hearings through late September and through to mid-October on the proposed rule.
