Buchanan back on its feet

CONSOL Energy resumed full production yesterday at its Buchanan Mine in southwest Virginia, after production was suspended last year as a result of damage to the ventilation system.

Several roof falls in previously mined areas caused damage to the ventilation controls, resulting in a general evacuation and suspension of production.

Activities resumed last month in two of the mine’s four continuous miner development sections and the longwall system.

Adjustments were made to the mine plan in the new area which are expected to prevent further problems.

Consol's Buchanan mine employs more than 500 people and can produce up to 425,000 tons of high-quality metallurgical grade coal per month.
