Steve Newson joins Joy

His stint at Moranbah North completed, Newson joins the OEM ranks

Staff Reporter

FORMER Moranbah North technical manager Stephen Newson is Joy Mining Machinery’s new national director of sales. He was one of the key members of the Moranbah North team during development of the major new Queensland longwall operation, and brings to Joy 30 years of experience in the coal industry.

Prior to his stint with Shell at Moranbah North, Newson worked with International Mining Consultants out of London. He started his coal industry career in Britain, working in a variety of positions before becoming heat of strata control for British Coal.

Newson is one of two significant new appointments at JMM Australia. George Carpenter, until recently manager of operations at Joy’s Worcester factory in England, has joined the Australian Joy subsidiary as director of operations.

He was previously production director with Joy at Ashchurch, and operations director at Hucknell, in the UK, and spent time as vice-president of manufacturing at the company’s Abbingdon operation in the USA.

Rowan Melrose, JMM Australia’s Queensland area manager based at Parkhurst, Queensland, has taken up a new appointment as the company’s deputy director of operations.
