Free seminars to give health safety updates

MINE personnel with an interest or responsibility for occupation health and safety shouldn’t miss free seminars run by the Coal Services Health and Safety Trust at Emerald and Cessnock later this month.

On show will be the latest in health and safety research, with a focus this year on occupational exposure information.

Reports will be available from Brian Davies who will provide an update of the occupational hygiene manual for coal miners as well as a discussion on a baseline hygiene survey conducted by BHP Billiton in the Illawarra.

Alan Rogers and Gary Mace will update participants about the diesel particulate research they have been conducting.

The focus will continue on musculoskeletal issues, with reports from Robin Burgess-Limerick on the ergonomics intervention designed to limit musculoskeletal injuries; Tony Parker on the functional fitness evaluation he is developing; and David Nery on access/egress from mobile plant.

Lee Di Milia will also speak about his project on driver fatigue in shiftworkers.

The seminars will be held on Tuesday May 18, Emerald Memorial Club, Emerald and Thursday May 20, Potters Brewery, Cessnock.
