Fire traps 28 miners in north China

A COAL mine fire trapped 28 miners in north China yesterday, the latest accident to hit the world's deadliest mining industry.

More than 60 miners were working underground at Fengfeng coal fields in Hebei province, one of China's coal production bases, when the fire broke out at midday, official news agency Xinhua said.

Last year, 3300 gas blasts, floods and other accidents killed nearly 6000 miners across China, according to official figures.
