MINE Safety NSW has warned mine operators to have systems in place that minimise the risk of introducing unsuitable or mismatching fittings after incorrect quick release hydraulic fittings lead to escape of fluid onto an operator at a NSW mine site.

Additionally, procedures should be in place that require the dissipation of fluid prior to conducting repairs or maintenance activities, Mine Safety NSW said in an alert.

In a separate incident, the tray of an articulated truck tipped onto its side with the cab remaining in an upright position, while carting top-soil.

“Roads and vehicle management systems should consider the manoeuvrability of vehicles in relation to maximum operating speeds, the impact of road design, which includes grades, camber and radius of curves,” Mine Safety NSW said.

There were 45 Level one incidents and two Level two incidents reported in the week to July 6 in NSW.
