The mine, located in New South Wales' Newcastle coal field on the southern shore of Lake Macquarie, will take delivery of the equipment early this year.
The 20-48/48 model machines features 18-tonne capacity, class 2 approved canopy, variable DC drive traction, reel safe hydraulic system and variable hydraulic conveyor drive.
The machines will also feature the Ergo Pod drivers control station, an innovation VES said improves driver control, visibility, comfort, ergonomics and safety.
VES managing director Graham Vought said the order was a strong indication that mine operator Lake Coal was proactively considering operator design ergonomics, reliability and service history when contemplating new machinery purchases.
Final assembly of the two cars will take place in the new purpose-built VES Highlander workshop facility in Tomago, near Newcastle, NSW.
VES said it was also undertaking new developments at its Tomago premises including a flameproof and electrical repair workshop.
