German monorail first in Russia

GERMAN monorail producer SMT Scharf AG has strengthened its presence in the Russian coal industry after receiving orders worth €4.1 million from four Russian mining groups.

Staff Reporter

Seven monorail systems were ordered in total, six to groups in the Russian Kuzbass basin and another to an operation in Eastern Siberia that will be used to transport workers and equipment underground.

Two of the train systems are from the company's DZ 1800 series and will be the first of the series to be installed in Russia.

The series has a high tractive force, giving advantages in heavy load haulage.

SMT Scharf designs, supplies, installs and maintains mining transport systems including monorails, floor-mounted rail systems, chairlift systems, conveyors and cable handling systems.

According to SMT Scharf, the latest orders were signed as a result of discussions between the companies at the Ugol Rossii & Mining trade fair in Novokuznetsk, Russia in June this year.
