COAL and gold miners in South Africa will officially accept wage agreements today, ending weeks of volatile disputes and industrial action.

SA miners sign pay deal

The SA Chamber of Mines and union groups the National Union of Mineworkers, United Association of South Africa and Solidarity will formally sign the wage deals, agreed on after Solidarity miners went on strike for three days earlier this month.

Chamber of Mines represented coal producers, including BHP Billiton, Xstrata and Anglo Coal, will increase employee pay packets by 7.5% to 10%.

Both the NUM and Solidarity had rejected the chamber's initial offer of a 6% wage increase.
