The alliance said that the drilling in the area was stopped thanks to the efforts of 20 locals and author Sharyn Munro.
It said farmers across the NSW northwest were opposed to Santos’ plans for the land and it said people across the region had joined the protest to stop drilling.
But the Santos spokesman told ILN sister publication energynewspremium.net that the company was aware of peaceful protest activities near the site of the Dewhurst 22 exploration well, south of Narrabri.
“While we acknowledge and respect the right of individuals to lawfully and safely protest, we are committed to carrying out this work in a safe and timely manner,” the spokesman said.
“We will continue to engage with the local community to build support for our work, ensure they are informed about our plans and address any concerns they may have.
“We would like to make it clear that Santos has received all necessary regulatory approvals to carry out this work in the Pilliga.”
The peaceful protest action has not delayed the work or access to the site.
