Cat dealer setting up shop in US western coalfields

CATERPILLAR dealer Western States Equipment says it has chosen Pocatello in southeast Idaho for a $US15 million ($A17 million) equipment facility.

The 28-acre location near Interstate 15 in Bannock County is an expansion for the dealer – which operates in Idaho as well as western Wyoming, Montana, eastern Oregon and Washington – and came about as a result of its success in the region.

In addition to 100,000 square feet of buildings, the complex will have an expanded service area, parts department and equipment display lot.

“Our new dealership will enable us to better serve our current customers and accommodate new clients,” chief operating officer Tom Terteling said.

“Providing quality services and equipment is our main focus and the new building will facilitate an increase in our ability to deliver to our clientele.”

WSE said it would hire about more 10 employees once the location opened, which would bring its workforce total to about 115.

“The community will benefit from the new facility locating here,” Bannock Development Corporation executive director John Regetz said.

“Our economic development team for this project really pulled together to keep a great Idaho company in Bannock County, including its current and new jobs, as well as significant investment.”

Until the facility is completed, the company will keep its existing Pocatello location.
