Ampcontrol transformer gains certification

Manufactured by Ampcontrol for more than 30 years, the transformer has now achieved certification complying with the relevant clauses of the explosion protection standards IEC 60079.0 and 60079.2 as well as core and coils complying to IEC 60076.11 and AS 2374.1.

Available in up to 11 kilovolts, 5 megavolt amperes, three phase and 50 herz ratings, the transformer is designed for high short circuit current “withstand” capacity and is supplied as part of a complete substation with a choice of flameproof (Ex d) IECEx certified high and low tension enclosures.

The Ampcontrol transformer is designed specifically for use in hazardous locations and its tanks are fabricated from mild steel plate and strengthened with structural sections to provide a robust and rigid unit.

The sides are corrugated to assist cooling and the lid is rolled and/or folded to assist in the prevention of dust accumulation and to provide strength and rigidity.

The transformer bushing plates with machined flanges are provided at each end of the tank for connection to the explosion protected (Ex d) high and low tension enclosures.

The tanks are over and under pressure tested to prove the integrity of the sealing.

Providing optimum transformer life and high service reliability, the transformer includes a 220C fully coordinated insulation system.

In addition to their electrical properties, insulating materials are able to withstand heat generated by the core and coils.

The transformer has no user serviceable parts and the tank is sealed and positively pressurised with nitrogen gas to exclude dust and moisture.
