Pegler started as a director of Bandanna on January 1 this year.

A mining engineer by trade, Pegler has 39 years’ experience in open-cut and underground resource developments, coal mining and processing operations and international and domestic coal marketing.

Pegler boasts a long list of coveted positions, including serving twice as the president of the Queensland Resources Council and he is still an elected member of the QRC.

In addition to his role as Bandanna non-executive director, Pegler is also an Energy Resources of Australia director, the ACA Low Emission Technologies chairman and the foundation member of the Queensland Clean Coal Council.

Pegler commenced his role as Bandanna chairman on April 5.

Predecessor Jeremy Barlow said Pegler’s industry experience and expertise ensured he would continue to progress the company forward.

“John’s wealth of coal industry experience has brought immediate benefits to Bandanna Energy and it is opportune to capitalise on John’s experience by appointing him as chairman of the board as we enter the next stage in the company’s growth,” he said.

Bandanna’s board welcomed Pegler as chairman and thanked Barlow for continuing as non-executive director.

Pegler will also assume the position of chairman of the remuneration committee.

Bandanna touts itself as Australia’s next coal producer, with a large resource inventory of more than 1.6 billion tonnes in Queensland.

It also secured a 14% share in the Wiggins Island stage 1 development.
