Pike River Coal

NEW Zealand company Pike River Coal will be showcasing a different kind of mining experience at AIMEX 2007, as it recruits for positions at its new coal mine on the spectacular West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

Staff Reporter

The Pike River resource is a high grade coking coal deposit with production planned to reach over 1 million tonnes per annum. Development of the mine will be by continuous miner and road header, with coal extraction to employ hydraulic mining techniques.

Located close to the west coast hub of Greymouth, the major underground mine is on track for first coal in early 2008, creating an exciting career and lifestyle opportunity for prospective employees.

The West Coast is one of New Zealand’s tourism and lifestyle icons and features towering limestone bluffs, lush forests and wild coastline. The region offers diverse activities such as fishing, skiing, boating, hiking and sightseeing through scenic national parks.

Currently, Pike River is seeking applications for a variety of positions including:

Mining engineers

Coal preparation plant technicians

Communications and monitoring engineer

Purchasing officer

Training and safety officer

Future operational employment opportunities at the mine will also be showcased at AIMEX.
