Canadian mine, UMWA reach agreement

CANADIAN operation Cardinal River is now working with a new union deal after ratifying a five-year collective agreement with the United Mine Workers of America.

UMWA’s Local 1656 and Elk Valley Coal decided on the pact, which covers July 1 of this year through June 20, 2012.

All of EVC’s mines, five in total, are now working under multiple-year contracts with the union.

Fording Canadian Coal Trust and Teck Cominco oversee Elk Valley Coal. The 2 million ton per annum Cardinal River complex is located in the west central region of Alberta.
