MSHA calls on electricians

THE US Mine Safety and Health Administration has planned its second annual National Electrical Troubleshooting competition to take place next month at its academy in Beaver, West Virginia.

The contest is set to begin at 7.30am local time at the campus' mine simulation building on November 15.

To be eligible to compete an individual must be a mining company employee or contractor and hold electrician certification that can be presented prior to the competition.

Other items required to be brought to the academy by the contestants include a low/medium voltage-rated Volt/Ohm meter, safety cap, glasses and shoes, low/medium voltage-rated gloves, a suitable tag, a scissor-type lock-out device, padlock, a pilot-type ground monitor tester, and ground fault tester. A written test will also be given, consisting of 10 questions to be completed in 10 minutes.
