The health and insurance services centre will be operated by Coal Services and provide health assessments and education, training services, physiotherapy, pain management, occupational rehabilitation services and workers compensation.
Its medical team will include six doctors as well as 12 allied health professionals who will treat workers from more than 170 companies in the region, including Port Waratah Coal Services, EDI Rail and mine staff.
The facility - which was previously based at Warners Bay - will provide vital accredited training services including WorkCover, first aid, drug and alcohol awareness and specialised training programs in injury prevention and risk management from its new location.
Coal Services is jointly owned by the New South Wales Minerals Council and the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union and provided 25,500 medical procedures and environmental tests last year.
The new facility - found at Speers Point - is expected to provide 4500 medical services, 500 rehabilitation and treatment referrals and 1500 physiotherapy treatments this financial year.
