The 50:50 JVC will develop and carry out mining operations to secure coking coal supplies for both partners.

With limited reserves of hard and semi-soft coking coal in India, Tata Steel managing director B Muthuraman said it was imperative to utilise resources in the best possible manner.

Four medium coking coal blocks with reserves of up to 600 million tonnes are currently under evaluation in Jharkhand.
