Instructor training scheduled in WV

THE US Mine Safety and Health Administration will host mine safety instructor training in one-day workshops next month in West Virginia, the agency announced late last week.

Staff Reporter

The training sessions for MSHA-qualified instructors and independent contractor instructors will be held February 20, 21 and 22 at the West Virginia Mining Extension Services Academy for Mine Training and Energy Technologies in Core, West Virginia.

Each day's sessions will run from 8am to 4pm, with a maximum of 25 individuals per day.

At this time, the agency noted, only instructors in MSHA's Coal District 3 area are eligible to register; workshops for other regions will be scheduled for future dates.

"This workshop is designed to assist mine safety instructors in complying with 30 Code of Federal Regulations Part 48, which requires mandatory training for coal miners and contractors working at or being hired to work at coal mines, as well as for visitors to mining operations," the agency said.

Pre-registration is required no later than February 1.

Further information is available by contacting MSHA.
