According to the Associated Press, Nathan Dove, 24, was repairing a shuttle car underground when he was electrocuted. An investigation by state and federal authorities has commenced; however, the cause of the incident is still not known.

Requests from International Longwall News for comment and further details from both the US Mine Safety and Health Administration and the mine's owner, Massey Energy, were not returned by press time.

The mine, located in Logan County, is the same operation where two workers died in early 2006 after a conveyor belt fire.

Dove's death was the second in the state of West Virginia this year.
