Mechanical engineering safety

MECHANICAL engineering safety will come under the spotlight in August with the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries holding a two-day seminar on the subject.

The seminar will be held August 13–14 in Sydney and will involve 25 presentations.

Among the coal speakers will be Greg Connolly speaking on learning outcomes of a drift conveyor incident at Xstrata's Tahmoor colliery; the evolution of Joy bolters by Dave Wilson; roof support installation by Sandvik's Paul Charlton; inseam exploration drilling by Valley Longwall Drilling's Phil Stacker; and a presentation on explosion-protected diesel by Phil Berriman.
