Protesters arrested at Hunter Valley power plant

TWENTY-nine protesters were arrested on Saturday after they chained themselves to conveyor belts at Bayswater Power Station in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.

The protesters, part of the grassroots group Rising Tide, were calling for urgency in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Four people attached themselves to machinery, stopping the conveyor belts that carry coal to the power station, while about 25 others occupied the coal piles in protest.

The protest temporarily halted electricity production.
