One of the engineers associated with the ACARP Alternative Fuels diesel exhaust research projects will also be at the stand to discuss the outcomes of the testing.

The recently completed research, conducted by SkillPro and funded by ACARP, into the effect of alternative fuels on engine emissions has highlighted a number of important points concerning the occupational health and safety effects of fuel changes made to reduce DPM mass or to decrease dependence on petroleum. An engineer directly involved with the testing will be at the stand to discuss preliminary findings and a presentation will be available for viewing by any interested parties.

The Fenzy Biomix rescue apparatus, which uses a mix of KO2 and compressed air technology, is nearing certification to Australian standards and will be available soon, providing mines rescue teams with unprecedented wearer comfort and dependability. It features a single concentric breathing hose and a full face mask which, due to the drying effects of the KO2, never fogs up. Unlike apparatus using soda lime as the CO2 scrubber, the Biomix’s two-hour duration is independent of operating temperature and wearer exertion. Other unique advantages of using compressed air over straight KO2 systems include cool, dry inhaled air with an oxygen content less than 30% and a low inhalation resistance. The KO2 chemical is supplied in interchangeable canisters, enabling the simple cleaning, refilling and reuse of the apparatus.

The range of certified calibration check gas from CAC Gas and Instrumentation will also be on display, including the 112-litre aluminium bottles which hold carbon monoxide, oxygen, flammable (methane) and H2S components in the one bottle, allowing confined space entry instruments to be checked with application of a single bottle. This will provide users with time and cost savings from reduced ordering as well as easier calibration checking. A special mix designed especially for coal mines has also been developed in response to industry demand for underground applications. The mix includes methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and oxygen and is available in 103-litre steel cylinders at a very competitive price.
