Staff Reporter

Highlights of the upcoming 3rd Annual Australian Longwall Mining Summit at Yeppoon, Queensland, will include case studies on two of the world's top longwall operations, Bailey and Twentymile in the USA.

According to conference organiser AJM Conferences, Twentymile mine manager Mike Ludlow and Bailey mine superintendent Dave Hudson will be among a strong list of overseas and local industry speakers who will give attendees the latest insights into the world's best high- performance longwalls, mine planning issues, latest geotechnical and geomechanics developments, and equipment and technology news. Case studies on Oaky Creek, Kenmare, Southland, New Wallsend No.2 and other Australian mines will also be presented at the conference.

Moranbah North, which operator Shell has blocked off to the outside world since the latter part of last year, is scheduled to be covered at the conference, while Dave Dowel, marketing manager with Baldwin & Francis (UK) will bring delegates news about technological innovations at a longwall mine in China.

Australia's 3rd Annual Longwall Mining Summit will be held at the Rydges Capricorn International Resort over February 24-25.

Comprehensive coverage of the conference, in the form of interviews, reports and profiles, will appear in ILN and the March 2000 edition of Australia's Longwalls.
