Cumnock to reopen open cut

THE NSW Department of Mineral Resources has awarded a mining lease to Cumnock Coal to reopen its open cut mine.

Staff Reporter

Contracting company Roche Mining will employ approximately 42 people, comprising six staff and 36 operators to produce around 1.2Mtpa ROM coal to be railed to Newcastle for export.

Last year the Cumnock longwall mine encountered difficult geological conditions in one of its longwall areas in its No 1 mine which has been abandoned.

In October, Cumnock management informed staff and unions about 30 jobs had to be made redundant.

A mine plan has been developed to continue production at the current rate over the next 10 years, including the further development of the open cut mine.
