ISO 9001-2000 is an internationally recognized certification for companies that consistently adhere to the highest quality control standards in industry specific classifications. Superior Highwall Miners are one of a select few coal related West Virginia manufacturers to achieve the certification.

The certification, achieved after a 15 month audit, recognizes compliance with both quality process standards and effective quality management systems in the design and manufacture of it mining systems.

“Finding new markets for our products overseas both solidifies SHM’s position as a leading manufacturer for highwall mining systems and helps bolster the West Virginia economy,” said SHM president Steve Antoline.

SHM’s Superior Highwall Mining System can mine coal seams ranging from as little as 30 inches to as high as 16 feet. The system, which utilizes a three to four man crew, is noted for both its efficiency as well as its high recovery rate.

Some 26 of the SHM machines currently operate in US mines owned by companies including Peabody, Massey and Cline Resources. Russian mines have also installed two systems in late 2003 with more orders in the works. Work in Australia to date has focused on evaluating potential sites.
