Output compared favourably to 6.1Mt in the corresponding 2003 period, and 7.8Mt last quarter.

The company said a change in roster from five to seven days delivered significant improvement at the Mt Thorley/Warkworth operation.

During the quarter Coal & Allied continued work on the development of the Mount Pleasant deposit, located in the Hunter Valley near Muswellbrook. Two open cut operations are planned with a combined potential life of more than 25 years.
