Further fatalities for China

ANOTHER coal mine blast has rocked China, this time leaving five dead and 17 missing. Just the day before China’s deadliest disaster since 1949 occurred, where 209 were killed.

The latest explosion occurred on Tuesday at an illegal coal mine in the southwestern Yunan province, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

The blast left 15 miners injured, while another 17 workers remain missing.

On Monday an explosion at the state-owned Sunjiawan coal mine in northeastern Liaoning province killed 209 miners.

The cause of the accident, which occurred some 242m underground, is under investigation.
