Shanxi to deliver 550Mt of coal

CHINA’s Shanxi province is expected to produce 550 million tonnes of coal this year, Shanxi Provincial Coal Industry Bureau told news agency Xinhua.

Some 400Mt will be sold outside the booming coal province and will generate around $US16.87 billion in sales revenue.

The bureau also issued a directive to improve coal mine safety measures with a targeted accident rate of below one death per million tons of coal mined.

In 2004 China produced 35% of the world's coal but its industry accounted for 80% of the deaths worldwide from mine accidents.
