The rescue team taking out the Esprit de Corp title was CSA Mine.
Rescue teams from the Bengalla Mine, CSA Mine, Cadia Valley Operations, Northparkes Mine, Perilya Mine, Mt Arthur Coal Mine, Peak Gold Mines, Endeavour Mine and Tritton Mine participated in the event.
The challenge included a range of practical exercises designed to test and improve the response of rescuers in the event of an emergency – including firefighting, endurance, high angle vertical rope rescue, and both opencut and underground search and rescue.
NSW coal mines were well represented in the awards, with Mt Arthur Coal Mine’s Darren Hamilton winning best captain and Jeremy Burgess winning champion first aider.
Peter Hatswell from NSW Mines Rescue gave an inspirational address to the teams at the gala dinner and awards ceremony, drawing on his experience from the Beaconsfield mine rescue and further sharing his extensive experience as an adjudicator for the search and rescue event.
Hatswell also donated a "Beaconsfield Mines Rescue Team" patch, which was auctioned off for $600 at the gala dinner.
Organisers said the challenge allowed the rescue teams to showcase their skills in various emergency disciplines and more importantly, share ideas and experience with their counterparts from other mining operations.
