The New South Wales Planning and Assessment Commission (PAC) approved the Moolarben coal mine’s Stage One modification, subject to conditions, allowing for the extraction of an additional 30 million tonnes of ROM coal over the life of the mine.

On 2 February 2015, the New South Wales PAC approved Yancoal’s Moolarben Stage Two expansion application.

On 3 September and 14 September 2015 respectively, the NSW Department of Industry, Resources and Energy granted the mining lease and mining operations plan for the Moolarben Stage Two Project.

Once fully developed, the integrated Moolarben Coal Complex (Stage One and Stage Two) will produce up to 17 million tonnes of ROM coal per annum for a period of 24 years.

Moolarben open cut production was up 8% on the previous year, with its continued ramp up in production, overburden extraction, fleet controls and throughput efficiencies enabling positive improvements for the period.
