The 10-year contract will allow the coal company to transport up to 1.6 million tonnes per annum of coal to WICET, at the Port of Gladstone.

While Aquila Resources did not disclose the amount of the contract it said it complemented other infrastructure agreements Washpool had signed in September, including a take-or-pay contract for port capacity with stage 1 of WICET.

Aquila Resources said Washpool had also applied for an additional 1Mtpa of capacity with stage 2 of WICET.

The Washpool project, located northwest of Blackwater in the Bowen Basin, is targeting 2.6Mtpa of coal production over a 16-year mine life.
